Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly: A One Community One Book Event at your North Little Rock Public Library System
Step into a story where space missions, precise calculations, and women who made their mark on history take center stage. Join us for One Community One Book 2026: Hidden Figures, a community reading event for all ages in North Little Rock and Central Arkansas.
This system-wide adventure invites readers and movie-goers to explore the real-life stories of Black women mathematicians who helped launch the American space program while navigating segregation, inequality, and change.
Together, we’ll celebrate Black History Month and Women’s History Month with book discussions, family programs, STEM and STEAM activities for kids and teens, film screenings, and more, all inspired by Shetterly's Hidden Figures.
Join in the discussion by reading or watching Hidden Figures in the format that fits you best: the adult unabridged edition, young readers version, picture book, or movie. Every age and reading style can take part in this community celebration. Whether you visit us at a branch, explore online resources, or use the Libby app to check out digital copies, you’re invited to read along and discover how courage, curiosity, and community can change the world.

Raye Montague grew up in Little Rock dreaming of becoming an engineer and used her love of math to transform ship design for the U.S. Navy, despite racism and segregation. Her story is a perfect fit for our Hidden Figures theme, highlighting Black women in STEM and showing kids what’s possible when they stay curious and determined.
